Razing Historic Buildings Still Only Workable Course, Mandel Says
Mandel and Aiello said that they did not yet know what the cost of the partial demolitions would be and implied that going ahead with that plan would depend on the estimate they receive
Is this what we want for the County Grounds ?

The Historic Preservation Commission meeting on October 3rd has been changed to October 17th. Since a final agenda is not yet available and things are changing quickly, please watch the website for updates on the future of the Eschweiler’s.
A blog on American Urbex gives a very detailed history of the Eschweiler Buildings and also a nice timeline showing the buildings uses during the last 100 years.
The writer also gives a good deal of information regarding the buildings future and UWM Foundations promise to restored them. Many interesting links.

Mandel Group sees the value of these historic buildings and is now open to discussing options for preservation—the Forest Exploration Center has been in the planning stages for the DNR land across Swan Blvd—The FEC Executive Director and Mandel have considered discussing the potential reuse of these buildings as a Charter school and/or the Forest Exploration Center! The idea that an agriculture school from 1912 could be repurposed as an environmental school in 2012 is certainly a promising and far less expensive venture.
This concept would benefit Mandel Group by relieving the costs incurred by rehabilitation but would also help move the FEC project forward and promote the greenest possible development on this site: “the greenest building is the one already built”.
We now need to encourage and support this wonderful idea. Please write or call the Mayor and Alderpersons and the HPC and let them know that our goal is to see the Eschweiler District rehabilitated and repurposed for such a venture. We, as a community, will work with them every step of the way!
Next step: encourage the decision makers…
